Building the Home recording studio - Jeff Cooper

Great introduction to the complexities involved in the audio recording environment.

Mr. Cooper has a very easy way of making the difficult read easy. A lot of information is packed into this fine manual, enough to satisfy an introductory or beginner level home recording studio builders needs.

Many areas are deep enough to be satisfying. Sketched pictures are included that are helpful but go into no depth for the reader to achieve some of the construction designs.

To his credit, Mr. Cooper does read his email messages and did get back to me on a question that I had. Plus one!

It is good, it isn't complete.

If you are well versed in construction and have an above average grasp on isolation techniques and treatments involved in taming standing waves, flutter and room interference, you may not need this information.

If you are starting out gathering information to develop a quality recording studio, then you should start with this book.

Recording Environment Acoustics.

That is what this book is about. I trust this information because it is trusted by the people that recommended it to me but it is not for the faint of heart.Nor is it a cookie cutter type solution.

Mr. Everest is celebrated by people who know acoustics. That means you are going to have to look into this large 450+ page book and learn some math!

You may have to read it more then once, let's face it, you will HAVE to read it more than once. The trade of acoustics has taken a beating over the past decade simply because very well intentioned people have tried to dumb it down to be able to make a very complicated subject accessible to society at large.

It doesn't work that way and it will never be that easy.

But, in your favor, in the time it takes you to completely mess a recording room up acoustically from lack of knowledge, you could read this book twice and get the room right.

So buy it, read it twice and get the sound you have been thinking was only available to the smart guys.

A quality sound room can be yours, for a song.

A very friendly and accessible read for a very tough topic. Mitch covers everything you need to make a great responding and sounding recording or acoustical listening environment.

Starting off with just enough critical information to get you involved in understanding what is happening in respect to reflections and sound waves, amplitude, reverb time, modes, etc.

Several chapters are dedicated to studio design from scratch and taking existing rooms and making them as good acoustically as they can be.

Most items discussed are "do it yourself" but some commercial grade product is mentioned with pictures as reference.

If you have a bedroom or garage, a dining room or shed or even an upstairs loft, Mitch Gallagher will walk you through the steps to creating a better sounding, better looking and more pleasing audible space.

If home theater is your wish, then just apply what you read and learn in this 246 page book and you can design a critical listening room with a minimum of headache.

It is easy to read and easy to learn with this book, "Acoustic design for the HOME STUDIO by Mitch Gallagher"!
